His other HCI specialties include aesthetic interaction, user experience design, amateur multimedia design theory and practice, and digital creativity. Currently, he is using theories from film, fashion, science fiction, and philosophical aesthetics to theorize about users and interaction, especially in the context of user experience design and supporting creativity. Bardzell co-directs the Cultural Research in Technology (CRIT) group at Indiana University.

In Real Life: Most of my hobbies involve insatiable consumption of different forms of media. I devote unmentionable hours a week to virtual worlds/online games, such as World of Warcraft and Second Life. I love to watch ice hockey and occasionally get out and play some street hockey, ideally with students. In recent years I (re-)discovered the art film, and thanks to my iPad and Handbrake, I watch a few films per week, which I find via the Criterion Collection, Film Movement, and plain old Amazon. I also read a lot, oscillating between trashy novels (e.g., sci-fi and mysteries) and literature that I feel guilty about not having read before. I live in a beautiful house by the woods with Shaowen Bardzell, our dog Pantoufle (name explanation), and more cats than I care to count.

I also occasionally blog on matters intellectual at http://interactionculture.wordpress.com/.
